Jasper Is Approved as Charter System

The Jasper County School District (JCSD) last week was approved by the State Board of Education as a Georgia Charter System.
As part of a multi-year charter plan, JCSD will institute numerous programs designed to increase student achievement. Charter Systems have been instrumental in advancing innovative polices to realize new educational opportunities in Jasper County.
“This new development signifies great strides in educational innovation for every student in the Jasper County School District,” said Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle. “Our Charter Systems nurture an environment that allows students to pursue a career path that is intellectually stimulating while giving them the tools to gain employment in their desired field upon graduation.
“This is an exciting time for Jasper County and I look forward to the great opportunities that the teachers, students, parents and community are sure to experience thanks to this charter approval.”
As a part of the charter approval, JCSD will implement Flexible Service Models (FSM) to serve students based on their individual needs, expand the currently operating Virtual Academy to include a broader range of ages and curriculum to better support all students in grades three-12, offer advanced study opportunities for accelerated students in grades 5-8, and provide an extended year and/or day for those students needing additional learning time.
JCSD’s mission is to “provide superior and innovative learning experiences to prepare every student for life beyond school.”
Charter Systems have proven effective in addressing the specific and unique needs of individual school systems, embarking on new relationships between each board of education and their communities. Lt. Gov. Cagle has been steadfast in his commitment to embracing new education models where the school becomes an epicenter for community involvement, leading to greater levels of student achievement by increasing pathways to career succes
