ACCIDENTS

Jasper County deputies responded to nine accidents in the last week, two of them depicted here. Both of these were worked by the Georgia State Patrol, and no report was ready Wednesday morning on Monday’s accident (right) involving a school bus on Hwy. 142 in north Jasper County.

However, the other accident occurred last Friday on Hwy. 83 south at Felton McMichael Road, and involved four vehicles. In that accident, Bruce Todd Trumbauer of Monticello was traveling south on Hwy. 83 in a 1999 Ford Expedition, waiting to turn left onto Felton McMichael Road. Meanwhile, Donna Kay Shaw of Juliette in a 2007 GMC Yukon was traveling north on Hwy. 83, approaching the intersection.

Behind Ms. Shaw was Colby Valentine Byrd of Savannah in a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta. Traveling south on Hwy. 83 was Eddie Deral Wilson in a 2005 Mercury Mountaineer. According to the report, as Ms. Shaw was approaching the intersection, Mr. Trumbauer turned left and struck the left front of her vehicle. The vehicle exited the roadway onto the east shoulder, struck an embankment and rolled over. It came to rest on its roof. Mr. Trumbauer’s vehicle came to rest facing east on Hwy. 83. While that crash was occurring, the other two vehicles swerved to miss it, and hit each other.

The report said all witnesses said that Mr. Trumbauer turned in front of Ms. Shaw, causing the collision. Ms. Shaw and a passenger were taken to the hospital. Mr. Trumbauer was cited for failure to yield while turning left.
