MS Canes Excel at PAC Track Meet

The Jasper County Middle School (JCMS) boys and girls track teams competed Saturday at the Piedmont Athletic Conference (PAC) championship meet in Social Circle where the boy’s squad won the PAC Championship title and the girl’s squad finished in fourth place.

The middle school boy’s squad won the title following a very close competition. Throughout the day, as the scores were announced, it was an immensely close competition between Monticello and Loganville which was not decided until the final event.

In the end JCMS scored 106.5 points as a team to edge Loganville out by one point.

Medalists for the boy’s team include:

William Stewart —third place in 100 meter dash and second place in 200 meter dash

Jaylon Mitchell—first place 400 meter dash

Gaven Sands—third place 800 meter run

Odalyus Thurman—third place in 100 meter hurdles and first place in boys’ high jump

Jordin Mitchell, Jaylon Mitchell, William Stewart, Gaven Sands—third place in 4×100 meter relay and first place 4×400 meter relay

Akiren Walker—first place in shot put and first place in discus throw

In earning fourth place, medalists for the girl’s squad include:

Alicia Tripp— third place 200 meter dash

Mari Jablonski—third place in the 1600 and 3200 meter run

Avery Barton, Sarah Carnes, Marley Sands, Alicia Tripp—third place 4×100 meter relay

Alicia Tripp—first place in discus throw

“I am proud of all the hard work that the students and coaches put into the season,” said JCMS Athletic Director Jim Strength.“It is evident that the young men and women have been working to improve themselves and it has shown up with our results in the region track meet. It was a great way to end the athletic year for JCMS and I am looking forward to what the next school year will bring.”

Mr. Strenth also noted that it had been a good two weeks for JCMS athletics with the baseball team winning the PAC championship last Tuesday.

The girl’s track squad is coached by Shakeirra Middlebrooks and the squad includes Hailie Tripp, Emily Calvendar, Alicia Tripp, Ella Noonan, Rylee Huff, Brianna Minter, Avery Barton, Sarah Carnes, Elliuna Ammons, Hailey Mote, Mari Jablonski, Hayley Pitford, Kelcey Key, Marley Sands, Jasmine Stone, Niesha Ross, D’Asia Smith, Kate Robinson, Ashton Mooney, Lucy Johnston, and Kyla Thomas.

The boy’s squad is coached by Yelberton Frazier and Keldrick Davis and includes Chris Bostwick, Tellis Banks, Dwaynell Conner, Chase Crews, Canius Dennis, Jameric Driskell, Chandler Dunning, Mario Greene, Micah McLaurin, Jaylon Mitchell, Jordan Mitchell, Tristan Reid, Gaven Sands, William Stewart, Johari Stone, Marquis Tart, Demario Thomas, Odalyus Thurman, Eric Tobler, Akiren Walker, and Chantz Watts.
