Canes Fall in Final Four

The Hurricanes had a great run at an AA state basketball title this year despite the 63-53 loss Saturday during the Final Four competition.

On route to Saturday’s Final Four, the varsity squad defeated the Dublin Fighting Irish last Thursday 79-67 during the Elite Eight round.

Second year varsity Hurricane head coach William “B.J.” Thomas summed up the 2015-2016 season best.

“I’ve never been more proud of a group than I was of this team this season,” said Coach Thomas.

“Early in the season the AJC said we were a team to keep an eye on. Then we dropped to a 6-7 record and it looked like we were done. But we finished the season 15-4 and reached the final four knocking off two #1 seeds in the process and stifling the highest scoring offense in the state!”

“Since May of 2015 I told these guys we would train like champions and we did just that. So while I’m disappointed that we didn’t win it all, I have no regrets because the team gave it their all.”

“Our seniors, J.P. Dollarhyde, De’Miria Glover, Desmond Nash and Jordan Stone will be greatly missed. I love all these players like my own sons.”
