George David ‘Poot’ Mohorne
A Celebration of Life for Mr. George David Mohorne “Poot” was held on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016 at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church, 837 Hillsboro Street in Monticello. Rev. Jimmy Horton, pastor, delivered the eulogy. Interment was at South View Cemetery. Repast was at Besley Event Center on Forsyth Street.
George Mohorne was born February 11, 1946 to the parentage of the late George and Pearline Mohorne.
To know George was to love him because of his compassion and willingness to help anyone with whatever was needed. George obtained his education through the Jasper County public school system and entered the workforce at an early age. Later in life, he was gainfully employed with the Georgia Pacific Corp., Feldspar Corp.(from where he retired) and several farming trades that he loved with a passion. He was a member in good standing with the Hillsboro Lodge #12.
George’s favorite past times were spending quality time with his family, especially his two grandsons, Mikiel and Samiries, taking care of his farm animals and laughing and talking with everyone at Ingles and Circle K; his favorite hangout spots. On April 12, 1970, George united in holy matrimony with Sarah Driskell and this union brought forth three children, Terry, Artagus and Ashley.
George was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Henry Mohorne, and Willie Mohorne; and a sister, Helen M. Phillips.
Memories of George will remain in the hearts of many but especially in the hearts of his survivors: his wife of 45 years, Sarah D. Mohorne; children: Terry Mohorne, Artagus Mohorne, Ashley Mohorne, Denise Driskell (Anthony) of Monticello, and Kenneth Driskell of Decatur; grandsons: Mikiel Mohorne, and Samiries Mohorne; siblings: Carrie Card of Monticello, James Curtis Mohorne of Pompano Beach, FL, Amy Johnson (Marian) of Monticello, and Betty Jackson of Eatonton; sisters-in-law: Geneva Carter of Monticello, and Lorraine Mohorne of Madison; brother-in-law, Willie L. Driskell (Lee) of Cleveland, OH; special nieces, Terrika Grier, Brenda Norris and Ester Jackson of Pompano Beach, FL; and a host of other relatives and friends that loved him dearly.
