Alton ‘Al’ McCraw Sadler

Alton “Al” McCraw Sadler, age 71, of Monticello, reached out and touched the face of God on Valentine’s Day, Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016, at his residence.

Alton Sadler was born on May 12, 1944, in Atlanta, to the late Alton Guy Sadler and Alice Evans McCraw Sadler. He graduated from Baldwin County High School in Milledgeville in 1962 and from the University of Georgia in 1966 with a B.S. in Mathematics. He served in the U. S. Air Force as a First Lieutenant during the Vietnam Conflict.

Alton was a writer of numerous Christian songs and a multi-talented instrumentalist. He volunteered at The Retreat Nursing Home for several years bringing music to the residents on Tuesdays; and went once a month to Lynn Haven Nursing Home for seven years.

As a youth, Alton received his Eagle Scout award from the Boy Scouts of America. He was a former member of the Jaycees; Sons of Confederate Veterans, and the Vietnam Veterans of America.

He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Deana Sadler of Fairview, N.C.; brother-in-law, Jack Daniel, Sr.; nephews, Jack Daniel, Jr. and Durwin Daniel; niece, Alysia Daniel, all of Florida. Also left to cherish his memory is his loving companion and caregiver, Lisa Boggs of Monticello; and Alton’s canine companion and the apple of his eye, “Lucky.”

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016, at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Milledgeville, 2617 Vinson Highway, Milledgeville, Ga. 31061. Glenn Harold will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Lisa Boggs, P. O. Box 638, Monticello, Ga. 31064.
