Cougar Chris Cain Plays in Blue-Grey Bowl
Chris Cain, a senior at Piedmont Academy, traveled to Jacksonville, Fla. on January 16 to represent Piedmont Academy and take part in the 2016 Blue-Grey All American Bowl South Squad at Ever Bank Field, home of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Cain was selected as one of the nation’s top 300 high school seniors out of more than 7,000 who participated in regional and super regional football combines across the country. Players participating in these combines are evaluated by former NFL coaches and players with the top players at each combine being selected to move on to the next level of competition.
Cain joined a host of other players, some who have committed to play at several Division I schools across the country next year, and was part of the South team which brought home the win in the Jacksonville Blue-Grey All American Bowl 28-14. Cain played very well for the South team as part of the defensive line finishing the game with one sack and six total tackles for the day despite being injured in the first half of play.
He has been a part of Piedmont football program since middle school and in the last two years earned All Region and All State honors as well as being the Scholar Athlete for both years. Cain was joined on the trip by both family and friends who made the journey to Jacksonville to watch him participate as an All American in this game.
Cain’s stats for his high school career during the years 2012-2016 include: solo tackles, 146; assists, 191; tackles for loss, 49; sacks, 19; forced fumbles, five; fumbles recovered, seven; QB pressures, 47; pass breakups, seven; interceptions, three and defensive touchdowns, two. Honors include Piedmont Scholar Athlete 2014 and 2015; GISA All Region 2013-2015; GISA All State 2014-2015; GISA All Star 2015 and Blue-Grey All American 2015.
“The Piedmont football program is extremely proud of Chris for earning this honor,” said Cougar head coach Wes Tanner. “ He has worked extremely hard to earn this accomplishment and represented his family and Piedmont very well. I cannot say enough about how much Chris has meant to this football program and he has ingrained how important hard work is into so many at Piedmont. Chris has, without a doubt, earned every bit of his recognition and we are all very proud.”
Mr. Cain is shown in the stadium along with supporters Taylor Swart, Becca Hopper, Clay Kirkpatrick, John Eshleman, and Carley Cain.
