Emergency Services Respond to Calls
Jasper County emergency services remain on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year round. The 911 center fields each call, and dispatches accordingly. So this wrap-up of calls for the sheriff’s office, emergency medical service (EMS), and fire services was generated by 911, whose operators fielded each of the calls resulting in dispatch. The totals go through Monday of this week.
The sheriff’s department responded to 18,396 calls for service, including 5,395 checking location, 4,123 stopping suspicious person or vehicle, 784 serve civil papers, 736 subject needs officer, 558 alarms, 540 direct traffic, 536 accidents, as well as 74 private property accidents.
Also, 425 assist motorist, 403 escort or convoy, 401 mechanical breakdown, 352 pick-up prisoner/subject, 292 trouble unknown, 219 road hazard, 196 forgery, 172 music/noise complaint, 163 each threatening/harassing calls and argument, 159 theft by taking, 142 domestics, 139 speeding auto, 136 VIN verifications, 129 welfare checks, 127 juvenile complaints, 125 livestock/carcass on road, and 120 vandalism of property.
Also, 93 four-wheeler complaints, 90 special detail, 86 extra patrol, 77 discharge firearms, 69 burglary, 68 sex offender check, 57 dog disturbance, 56 hang-ups to 911, 53 abandoned vehicle, 51 fight, 47 identity fraud/theft, 44 fraud/theft by deceiving, 40 violation of the Georgia controled substance act (VGCSA), and numerous other types of calls for service.
EMS responded to 1,711 calls during 2015, with the nature of the calls varied. They responded to 217 sick calls, and 212 patient transports. Also, 170 miscellaneous calls that don’t fit into a particular category when the call comes in, 168 motor vehicle accidents, 165 fire calls of various kinds, 114 shortness of breath, 109 falls, 73 chest pain, 66 lift assist/assist invalid, 45 diabetic/unknown, 38 seizures, and many other calls.
Jasper County fire services, which is primarily volunteer, responded to 2,292 calls during 2015. This includes all seven stations, so there is overlap, as protocol requires more than one station to be paged for most emergencies. There is also overlap with EMS, as both organizations are dispatched to numerous calls.
The breakdown by 911 shows calls by department, with Jackson Lake Volunteer Fire Department responding to 228, Shady Dale to 203, Monticello to 518, Hillsboro to 69, Piedmont to 141, North Alcovy to 247 and Farrar to 165.
