Piedmont Sweeps Nathanael Greene

Piedmont Academy’s varsity basketball teams enter the Christmas break with some momentum following a sweep of Nathanael Greene Academy on the road last Saturday.

The Lady Cougars earned a 46-18 win while the varsity boys took a 72-63 victory against the Patriots.

Amelia Dodson continued her strong 2015-2016 season with 12 points Saturday, all in the first half. The Lady Cougars jumped out to an 11-3 first quarter lead and held a 30-12 advantage at halftime.

MaKennah Holifield finished with eight points while Lucy Tuggle scored six and Madison McCart and Hailey Hooper and Matti Smith all scored four. Rainey Loftin, Alexis Dodson, Ashley Johnston and Deacon Robinson each finished with two points in the balanced scoring attack.

The Lady Cougars are now 3-3 overall.

For the boys, Chandler Burrell finished with a game-high 23 points and Mack Brady added 15 to help secure the win for the Cougars in Siloam.

Chris Cain also finished in double figures with 10 points and Zach Wilson added nine points. J.T Webb contributed four points in the victory while Joseph Anderson, Sam Younker, Chris McClain and Sam Wright each scored two points. Jackson Waddleton added a free throw in the fourth quarter.

The win improved the varsity boys to 3-3 overall.

Piedmont’s varsity basketball teams will return to action Friday, Jan. 8, at John Milledge Academy beginning at 6 p.m.
