Cougar Wrestlers Return to the Mat

The Piedmont Academy wrestlers have been busy preparing for the new season and will compete for the first time this Saturday, Dec. 5, at Community Christian. Matches are set to begin at 10 a.m.

“We have six varsity wrestlers this season and two middle school wrestlers,” coach Alvin Hawkes said.

“We began conditioning before Thanksgiving and will continue to work this week in preparation for the upcoming season. I am excited about the team this year and look forward to our competition.”

Varsity wrestlers include senior Nolan Cleary, sophomores Parker Clark, Tanner Coppock, Corbin Burrell and Ian Boyd and freshman Logan Conner. Middle school wrestlers Landon Sinyard and Trent Coots will also gain mat experience this season.

Other upcoming matches for the Piedmont wrestlers include a tournament hosted by Westfield in Perry Dec. 11-12 and a home event on Tuesday, Dec. 15, against Covenant, Windsor, Gatewood and Creekside.

Matches for the Dec. 15 event will begin at 5 p.m. The team will then return to the mat Jan. 8-9 with a tournament hosted by Trinity Christian School.
