God, Thank You for Blessings
It’s difficult to believe we are already approaching another Thanksgiving Day. A lot of events have happened in each and every one of our lives over the last 12 months. Despite the good and the bad that we’ve encountered, we can all say and should say, “God, thank You for the blessings of this last year.”
About six weeks ago, I received an unexpected blessing. I inherited some of Rev. Larry Pearson’s library from his daughter, Marion. I am truly humbled by this gift. Thank you, Marion.
Since inheriting these books, my first choice was to study and read the book of James. I used one of Larry’s books on James and a book by Dr. David Jeremiah to do my daily reading and studying. At the end of the process, I felt better acquainted with the book of James.
It’s nice to have resources to help us acquaint or reacquaint ourselves with the Lord and His teachings. What a blessing to have these books to help me continue along my faith journey and grow closer to the Lord.
Was it coincidental that I inherited these books, or was it God at work? I tend to think it was God at work. Larry bought or received these books over the years. The first book I chose to utilize was the commentary on James. This book was given to him by Bixie the very year I graduated from high school.
Was it coincidental or was it God at work that I attended LaGrange College and subsequently graduated on my birthday, of all days, with a double major in religion and Christian education?
Was it coincidental or was it God at work that I graduated from Emory University with a Master’s degree in Divinity with a Grade Point Average that was identical to my GPA at LaGrange College?
Was it coincidental or was it God at work that I was able to go to college with my best friend from high school and twice over the years work with him for the same companies?
Was it coincidental or was it God at work that I was able to live and serve the Lord throughout central and south Georgia as a director of Christian education and a pastor?
Was it coincidental or was it God at work that godly people I have worked with over the years have backed me and supported me when necessary?
Was it coincidental or was it God at work that someone who had given up on ever finding a spouse found one that was born a thousand miles away?
Was it coincidental or was it God at work that this person had to move to Jasper County in order for us to meet?
I believe faithfully that it was God at work, not chance, that has allowed my life to unfold in the way and series that it has.
For the good and the bad, I thank God for my life. I hope this Thanksgiving you take time to thank God for your life. It truly is a blessing from above.
