Cougar Shooters Compete
An October 31 competition had 13 schools and 108 shooters competing in the disciplines of 50 trap and 100 sporting clays. The Clay Crushing Cougars finished in sixth place as a team.
The top shooters for the team with the Highest Overall (HOA) were Zach Sanders, 126, Browning Benton, 114 and Owen Brady, 111. Top trap scorers were Sanders, 33, Benton, 32, and Hunter Whiting, 30. The top sporting clays were Sanders, 93, Benton and Brady, 82 and Joseph Anderson, 80.
The November 14 shoot was the last qualifying event for the Cougars. Schools competed in either the Interscholastic or General categories.
The Clay Crushing Cougars finished third in the Interscholastic category with a total of five schools and 33 shooters participating in the disciplines of 50 trap and 100 sporting clays.
Sanders, 126, Mitch Marsh, 101 and Andrew Chapko, 99 were the highest overall (HOA) shooters for the team. The leading shooters in trap were Sanders, 37, Marsh, 33 and Andrew Chapko, 32.
Continuing to lead the team in sporting clays were Sanders, 89, Marsh, 68, and Chapko, 67.
The team is now preparing for the state shoot at the Forest City Gun Club located in Savannah on Dec. 4-5.
Team members traveling to Savannah consist of Joseph Anderson, Browning Benton, Owen Brady, Blake Calhoun, Andrew Chapko, Chris Coogler, Katherine Cunningham, Kevin Davis, Wyatt Galloway, Anne Marie Hildebrant, Hagan Hinson, Mitch Marsh, Noah Quick, Zach Sanders, Preston Tyler, Eli Waits and Hunter Whiting.
During the course of the two-day shoot, team members will participate in the disciplines of 100 skeet, 100 sporting clays and 100 trap.
