Deer To Be Celebrated Saturday

TIM ZECH WITH BIG BUCK

The sometimes elusive whitetail deer will be celebrated in Jasper County, Deer Capital of Georgia, this Saturday, Nov. 7, when the 49th annual Deer Festival takes place.

A special section about the festival and all things deer is included inside today’s newspaper. It features photos of successful hunters, festival vendors, and lots of welcoming words from local merchants and businesses.

The festival begins at 7:30 a.m. with a one-mile fun run, followed by the 5K Deer Dash at 8 a.m. The invocation and flag raising will occur during the fun run, and entertainment will begin just after the 5K begins.

Some 120 vendors will offer their wares for sale, and there will be several demonstrations. A marching band exhibition is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Rose Bowl field; the program begins at 1 p.m., and the parade is set for 2 p.m. For more information on the Deer Festival, contact the Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce, 706-468-8994.
