Cheer Cougars Compete in Loganville

Piedmont Academy’s competition cheerleaders were back in action this past weekend, competing at Loganville Christian Academy on Halloween.

The Cheer Cougars had to do some last-minute adjustments after squad member Caitlyn Young injured her back during the football game the night before. Young is the kicker for the school’s football team.

“The girls did a fantastic job even though we had to compete with only 11 cheerleaders,” said coach Tonya Coe. “Saturday morning we had to redo the routine in only two 10-minute warm-ups putting team members in different positions. They were nervous, but they came out and did excellent. They made every stunt and had the crowd into the routine with them.”

Piedmont placed first in “Best Jumps” for varsity squad and second overall. The Cheer Cougars competed against five other varsity schools including Loganville Christian, John Milledge, Gatewood, Bethlehem Christian and Tiftarea Academy.

“I could not have been more proud of the girls and their performance,” Coe said. “They are really progressing and doing even more elite stunts and advance tumbling. Being only our second year, they amaze me at the talent they have. I was told by another school how respectful and supportive our girls are of the teams competing, which is a great compliment.”

Piedmont will compete at Brentwood in Sandersville this Saturday, Nov. 14.
