Early Voting Is Under Way

Early voting for the city of Monticello election to be held November 3, began Tuesday, and continues until Friday, Oct. 30.

Those registered to vote in Monticello can vote Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the registrar’s office in the Jasper County Courthouse.

Polls will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Absentee ballots are also available for those who cannot vote in person between now and then, and are unable to vote on November 3.

Candidate forums are scheduled today, Oct. 15, at Springfield Baptist Church, and next Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Visitors’ Center on the Square.

The positions up for election are Mayor Pro-tem, a seat sought by Alton Standifer, Randy Strozier and Stone Workman; City Council District 1, Post 2, being sought by incumbent Cornell Williams and challenger Cynthia Miller, and City Council District 2, Post 2, which is sought by Shawn Bell, Stephanie Cheney, and Jenny H. Murphy.
