Lady Canes Head to State

The varsity Lady Hurricanes softball team will head to the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) state playoffs which will begin its first round next Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 14-15.

The Lady Canes join Bleckley County, Lamar County, and Crawford County in the 4AA Region as the top four finishers in the region which will head to playoffs.

The Lady Canes split action with Lamar County Tuesday in a doubleheader on the first day of a best of three games series to determine the seeding for the playoff tournament.

The Lady Canes were to play Lamar again Wednesday to determine which team will travel to Cochran to face Bleckley for the region championship. The region tournament winner will host the first round of the state tournament which will begin next Wednesday.

The loser of the final Jasper vs. Lamar game will play Crawford in the consolation game to determine the third and fourth seeds for the state tournament. Each will have to travel to South Georgia for the opening round of state competition.

The region championship game will be hosted by Bleckley Saturday, Oct. 11
