Transformations

As a young child, I remember spending time with my dad and brothers clearing an area and preparing it for a field to be planted in millet.

Clearing it was the tougher of the two tasks. Dragging brush and limbs to piles to be burned was not an easy feat for a little fellow, but in due time, the land was cleared and the debris burned.

After the clearing, came the preparing. This was accomplished mostly by tractor. The soil was plowed and broken until nothing but soil could be seen. Next, the lime and fertilizer was added. Last of all, the millet was planted. In the months ahead, a nice field of millet would be ready for harvesting in the form of hay for our cattle.

It brought months of pleasant views for those who enjoy seeing the land transformed from something grown up to something cleared and beautiful.

In May of 1955, a tornado touched down in the hometown of my wife. In fact, the tornado first touched down at the home of her grandparents and dad. It moved northeasterly and leveled the town of Udall.

In a matter of minutes a beautiful town was transformed into a land of twisted trees and metal and debris. With the help of people like the Mennonites, many homes were rebuilt and the town was transformed back into something similar to what it was before the storm hit.

Transformation for this town started long before the tornado struck. It started when the men, who called themselves Mennonite, chose to have their minds transformed by the renewing of their minds to do the will of God in their lives. Once their minds were changed, their actions were changed, too, in everyday living. When the tornado struck, they acted in the way that the Apostle Paul suggested they should after their minds have been transformed. (Luke 12.2)

Changing your mind, your thoughts and your actions cannot be done on your own. You must allow the Lord to do this for you. Through His Word and His Holy Spirit, you can be transformed into a mighty person for the Lord. You can be transformed into a person who can do the work of the Lord in the here and now.

We see a lot of churches in our county. We see a lot of people who call themselves Christian. May I ask you, what is your church doing, or more succinctly, what are you doing since your mind has been transformed by God? The Mennonites had it right in 1955 in Cowley County, Kansas. Do you have it right in 2015 in Jasper County?

Transformation from evil to good starts with giving your mind, your body, and your soul to Jesus Christ. If you have not been transformed, give God the opportunity to change you to the person He desires you to be.
