MS Lady Cougars Close Season with Win

Piedmont Academy’s Middle School softball team defeated Flint River 11-0 in five innings last week.

“We had a great game offensive and defensively,” said coach Cameron Vaughn. “We moved runners around on offense and Fleming Sealy pitched a perfect game spoiled only by an error in the third.”

Sealy also led the team at the plate driving in several runs while Katherine Haase and Haley Ann Frank also contributed at the plate.

The team managed to dodge the raindrops Monday and played two games against John Milledge Academy on Georgia College & State University’s field. Despite falling in those two games (8-1 and 9-8) the Middle School Lady Cougars finished the season 9-6 overall. The teams played two five-inning contests.

Frank scored the lone run for Piedmont in the first game.

In game two, the offensive output improved as the Lady Cougars rallied from an early deficit to tie the game before ultimately falling by a run. Frank once again helped lead the offense along with Savannah Taylor and Sealy.

“Defensively, we made the routine plays and backed up our pitchers,” Vaughn said.

Sealy and Kenzie Rodgers once again handled the pitching duties.

Scheduled games against Briarwood last Thursday and Westfield on Tuesday were not played due to the weather. Last Saturday’s tournament at John Milledge Academy was also not played due to rain.
