MS Cougars Fall in Close One

The Piedmont Academy Middle School football team lost a close 24-22 contest to visiting Skipstone on Sept. 15.

“It was an excellent game that went down the wire,” said Piedmont coach Alvin Hawkes. “I was proud that our guys never quit the entire game. They worked extremely hard despite being down.”

Owen Brady, a seventh grader for the Middle School Cougars, scored all of the team’s touchdowns.

“He is to be commended for the way he played on both sides of the ball,” Hawkes said. “He did an excellent job of coming in and playing quarterback.”

Piedmont also had a successful two-point conversion on a pass from Dylan Coe to Payton Wallace. Tate Marks and Wallace also had key receptions from Brady.

“Overall, I think we showed a tremendous amount of tenacity and grit,” Hawkes said. “Even though we lost on the scoreboard, our kids did an excellent job in a hard-hitting, tough-nosed game.”

The MS squad will return to the field today, Sept. 24, hosting Briarwood at 6 p.m.
