Elementary Cougars Continue Learning

Piedmont Academy’s Elementary School Cougars continued their learning process Tuesday afternoon when they faced Creekside Christian Academy of McDonough.

The young Cougars fell 38-0 but coach Justin Owens said the experience gained should help the team as the 2015 season progresses.

“The boys are still learning and will continue to improve,” the coach said. “We changed the offense up some after last week’s game but due to the weather only had one real practice since our first contest. We didn’t have a lot of time to work on the changes.”

Fifth grader Drew Maddox led the Cougar offense in rushing.

Defensively, fifth graders Russ Hagwood and Joe Clark played well.

“We had some containment issues that we need to work on during the next few weeks and we are anticipating better results,” Owens said. “We have an off week coming up which will allow us time to regroup and come back strong against Fullington on Sept. 29.”

Regardless of the score, Owens and the Elementary Cougar coaches said the team is competing against some strong opposition.

“Our team toughed it out this week and played through injuries that sidelined them the week before which really speaks to their commitment to the team and desire to play,” Owens said. “They are super tough and never gave up despite the score.”

The coaches also praised the efforts of third grade player Jake Pope and second grader Gabe Moore.

“Both played with a lot of heart and gave some great effort on defense,” Owens said
