Three Get 13 Right in First Contest Week

KIMBERLY FARR (L), DILTRA GRIGGS

Gordon Farr was the lucky (smart) winner of the first week’s football contest, and his wife, Kimberly, picked up a $25 prize from Diltra Griggs at the Bank of Monticello, this week’s prize sponsor.

Mr. Farr beat out two other players who also had 13 right to win the prize. David Leach and Jenifer Kirksey both correctly picked the winners of 13 games listed, but were further off the tie-breaker than Mr. Farr who guessed 31 points would be scored in Monticello’s 28-0 loss to Jackson.

Mrs. Kirksey has won the first contest of the season each of the past two years, and she thought she was in contention this week. Well, she was close. Mr. Leach also thought he might have a chance…And he, too, was close.

Mr. Farr, who lives in Turtle Cove, began playing the contest last year, and enjoyed it so began the first week this year. His wife does not play, but she was the one who got him interested, and who knows, she might start playing. Mrs. Farr said she takes the paper to her husband, and turns in the entry…so he couldn’t win without her.

Last week’s contest featured an assortment of high school and college games, land this week the pros are thrown in for good measure. And the college games may get a little more competitive this week.

The contest is designed so anyone, novice or expert, can win. There is a mix of games, and no one knows who will win until after it is. Entries must be turned in no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, before any games are played.

Everyone who correctly guesses the winner of at least 12 games listed gets their name added to the grand prize honor roll for four premium tickets to the Chick-fil-A/Peach Bowl in Atlanta.

Complete details and this week’s contest is on page 13 of today’s paper. No purchase is necessary. Entries may be submitted on a plain piece of paper. They must be delivred to The News office, 247 West Washington Street, or faxed to 706-468-6576 by 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11.
