Jenny Murphy Seeks Council Post

JENNY MURPHY

Jenny Hughes Murphy qualified to run for the Monticello City Council District 2, Post 2 seat in the November 3 general election.

Mrs. Murphy is a long-time resident of Jasper County, having moved to Monticello when her parents, Bill and Chris Hughes, bought the local newspaper when she was in the sixth grade. She attended Jasper County public schools, and graduated from Jasper County Comprehensive High School. She also attended Georgia College in Milledgeville.

Mrs. Murphy is the advertising manager for The Monticello News, a position she has held for many years. She has worked at the newspaper virtually all of her adult life, and is familiar with all aspects of the news business.

She has volunteered in numerous capacities, being very active with the Jasper County Band Boosters, serving as a volunteer firefighter for a time, and assisting in activities with the Monticello-Jasper County Chamber of Commerce.

She has lived at her current address on Burney Drive for 12 years.

Mrs. Murphy is married to James, and she has two adult children, Elizabeth and Trevor.

Mrs. Murphy decided to seek the position of City Council person as she has often been vocal on city services.

“Like all city residents, I’d like to see lower utility bills, but I recognize that may not be possible. I hope to be a voice for good in the city,” said Mrs. Murphy.

She recognizes that it is a challenging position as the city has financial restraints to achieving its goals.

A newcomer to politics of any kind, Mrs. Murphy said she wants to be a voice for the people, and welcomes calls from city residents. She can be reached at 706-816-0966 or by e-mail at murphyj270@gmail.com
