Alton M. Standifer is a Monticello native running for Mayor Pro Tem.
Mr. Standifer graduated from Monticello High School prior to attending Georgia Southern University. At GSU he held a number of leadership positions most notably serving as President of the student body which reaches a population north of 20,000 – almost 10 times the population of the city of Monticello. These leadership endeavors also led him to work closely with some senior administrators at the university and throughout the state that included several university presidents, legislators, and the Vice President for Government Relations at GSU.
Mr. Standifer served on the statewide committee that completed the search for current Chancellor of the University System of Georgia, Hank Huckaby who was then serving as a State Representative. Mr. Standifer also served as one of five students that hosted a political debate for the 2010 Georgia Gubernatorial election.
Mr. Standifer is a member of St. James A.M.E. Church where he sings in the choir and provides the sermon on special occasions. When not serving his local community through speaking engagements at the local schools or helping students get to college, he enjoys working with the amazing students at the University of Georgia where he serves as the Director of New Student Orientation.
Mr. Standifer runs on a platform of Creating Opportunity for Generations! He says, “This starts with our city focusing on servant leadership, fiscal responsibility, and putting People Over Politics! I ask for your support in the upcoming municipal election.”
