A United Nation
In Ecclesiastes, chapter 4, verses 9-12, we read “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up the other; but woe to one who is alone and falls and does not have another to help. Again, if two lie together, they keep warm; but how can one keep warm alone? And though one might prevail against another, two will withstand one. A threefold cord is not quickly broken.”
It worries me how there is so much anger and disunity among Americans today. Everyone seems to be pointing fingers and blaming someone else for the state in which our union has allegedly gotten. Instead of working together to make our nation better and to help it survive for years to come, it seems as if everyone is bent on destroying our nation and a land which has more freedoms than most nations.
Is our nation perfect? No. However, it is better than many, many other nations. Do we have some crooked and imperfect leaders, ridiculous laws, and less than ideal judicial systems? Yes.
It’s true. We are not a perfect nation. We have made mistakes. We will make more mistakes.
Nevertheless, it is time for real healing to begin in our nation among the human-made classes and races. As children of God, we are one. God does not show favor on one race or one economic class, nor does God care about your political orientation. God cares about people.
God shows favor on those who live according to His teachings. God shows favor on those who help others have educational opportunities, meaningful employment, and adequate housing. In a nutshell, God shows favor on those who lovingly care for one another.
God does not favor those who keep people from receiving educational opportunities, meaningful employment, and adequate housing. In a nutshell, God does not show favor on those who limit others from experiencing and enjoying life to its fullest for themselves.
For now, this means we must all work, side by side, to make sure that more Americans have the opportunities to work, to enjoy life, and to experience a fair share of the rich resources of this nation. There is no room in America for gluttony by one group of people over the resources of this great land. If this is a land of opportunity, we must work to make it just that—a land of opportunity for one and all.
Businesses, companies and corporations don’t succeed because of a few smart people or a certain kind of people at the top. It takes every man and woman who works for that company in order for it to succeed. Remove a segment of your dedicated employees, and your company will fail and should fail.
Matthew, chapter 12, verse 25 reads, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand.”
As a nation, we have got to get our act together. We have got to take care of one another better. We must be more loving, more forgiving and more caring of one another. Together we can accomplish great things. Divided, we can accomplish nothing.
May God forgive us, encourage us, and guide us toward being a more united nation, under God this Labor Day.
