Football Season Is Under Way, Contest Starts Next Week

The Piedmont Cougars began their football season last Thursday, and the official start for the Monticello Hurricanes is tomorrow, Aug. 28, which means it must be almost time for The Monticello News football contest.

Most of the colleges don’t get started until September 5, so the annual football contest will begin with that week’s games.

The pros don’t get going good until the week after that, when the contest will feature high school, college and pro games.

For newcomers to town, or to the football contest—an assortment of games will be listed each week. Contestants pick who they think will win each game, and submit it on an entry form to The News office no later than 5 p.m. Friday. The person with the most correct picks gets bragging rights and a prize worth $25 from the sponsor of the week.

That person has his or her photo made on Monday, collecting the prize from the prize sponsor.
