Deputies Seize Drugs, Investigate Robbery
Jasper County deputies have been busy in the last week, making several drug arrests and investigating an armed robbery at a home in Monticello on West Washington Street.
The armed robbery occurred late Sunday afternoon, when a black male went to the residence and demanded money. The resident had no money, and the perpetrator escaped with a cell phone, house phone, and some Lortab (prescription drugs). Investigators questioned neighbors, and are actively investigating the incident.
Last Friday, Aug. 21, just before 7 p.m., Terrance Bostic was the passenger in a vehicle that was stopped in traffic congestion and was recognized as having an outstanding warrant, according to a report from the sheriff’s office. Mr. Bostic was arrested and charged with giving false name to law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and possession of marijuana less than an ounce (top photo).
On Thursday, Aug. 20, about 8:30 p.m., a traffic stop was initiated on a 2010 Dodge Challenger on Oak Street for failure to maintain lane.
The driver, Kenneth Waller Jr., was arrested for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, failure to maintain lane, obstruction of law enforcement officers, and driving on a suspended license.
The passenger of the vehicle, Shaquavia Middlebrooks, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Investigators are also looking into numerous burglaries that have occurred in the last week. A home on Hwy. 83 south was broken into, and the perpetrator left with several televisions, playstations, jewelry, and more. Also, on Georgia-Pacific Road, a theft by taking was reported sometime between July 31 and August 3, where $2,500 worth of equipment was allegedly taken.
Two firearms and ammunition were taken from a residence on Crane Court, and hydrocodone was reportedly taken from a residence on Mockingbird Drive.
Other burglaries were reported on Funderburg Drive where boots and hair clippers were taken, and on Hillsboro Street, where a central air conditioning unit was taken. The owner of that property has offered a reward for the name of the person who took the unit.
Also, a Kawasaki mule was taken from an address on Pace Street in Mansfield. Deputies investigated a report of several crimes on North Railroad Street in Shady Dale and determined it was criminal trespass damage to property.
Other people arrested in the last week, and their charges, include:
•John Robert Dempsey, 41, Monticello—simple battery and cruelty to children.
•Michael Derek Hopkins, 25, Monticello—headlight violation, no proof of insurance and driving while license suspended or revoked.
•Robert Wayne Smith, 56, Monticello—child molestation.
•Robert Louis Savona, 46, Conyers—driving while license suspended or revoked.
•Chelsea Nicole Davis, 22, Newborn—possession of methamphetamine.
•Joseph Jarma Tishun Standifer, 24, Monticello—Jasper County Probate court bench warrant.
•Gregory Scott Phillips, 33, Mansfield—probation violation.
•Susana Ortiz Garcia, 30, Shady Dale—theft by receiving stolen property.
•*Dewey Austin Wright, 66, Monticello—obstruction of a law enforcement officer and public drunkenness.
