Hurricane Softball Gets Under Way

The varsity softball Lady Hurricanes began their 2015-2016 season Monday at Ola High School.

The venture ended with a 3-0 loss, but returning head coach Chris Jenkins said the team played well against a big-time program. However, he said the girls needed to do a better job of putting the ball in play.

This year’s varsity squad includes senior Corissa Hawkins; juniors, Savannah Fritz and Shianne Reed; sophomores Calie Batson, Jessi Caron, Morgan Clement, and Julia Shaw; and freshmen, Mackenzie Abbott, Madison Abbott, Lacey Rutledge, Mackenzie Tripp, and Kaitlin Wilbanks.

The Lady Canes were scheduled to travel to Locust Grove Tuesday for a non-region competition and were to host Jackson Wednesday before hosting Houston-County today, August 13.

The Jasper County Middle School Lady Canes will begin their season tomorrow, August 14 with an away trip to Social Circle.

The squad is also scheduled to play Tuesday, August 18 at Carver Middle School. All games begin at 4:30 p.m.
