Piedmont Has One New Teacher

Area resident, Colt Spivey, joined the faculty of Piedmont Academy for the upcoming school year.

Mr. Spivey is a member of Jasper County High School Class of 2010, and he graduated from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro this past spring. He earned a bachelor of science degree in health and physical fitness and is also a certified teacher in the field.

Mr. Spivey joins the middle school team of Piedmont’s faculty. He will be teaching life and earth science, as well as high school physical education and weight training. Other duties will include assisting with the school’s softball and baseball programs. In his spare time, Mr. Spivey enjoys hunting deer and quail, as well as raising bird dogs.

Former faculty member Beth Galloway has returned to Piedmont after taking one year off to work for Newton County schools. She will be teaching fifth grade, as well as high school agriculture science, and will be coordinating the school’s Future Farmers of America program. This school year will round off to nine years at Piedmont.

A special year is in store for Piedmont as it celebrates its 45th year in independent education. With 46 full and part-time employees, the school is one of the largest businesses in Jasper County. Open house for new students will be today, Aug. 6 at 3 p.m., followed by open house for all returning students at 5 p.m.
