Lady Cougars Begin Practice

Piedmont Academy softball players will return to the practice field Monday as they begin preparations for the upcoming season.

The Lady Cougars will take part in a preseason tournament July 31 and Aug. 1 hosted by Windsor Academy before hosting their own event August 7-8. The first regular season contest will be August 11 at Briarwood Academy in Warrenton.

“The season is quickly approaching and we are excited about getting started,” coach Daniel Funt said. “We are young in spots and experienced in others. There is a high level of interest in the program.”

Funt said Piedmont will field varsity, B-team and Middle School squads this fall.

“We will have some new faces competing for some spots,” the coach said.

Piedmont players have had to make a certain number of workouts during the summer as part of the offseason program.

“We are ready to go to work,” Funt said. “The early tournaments will give us a chance to fine tune some things. After we play at Windsor, we’ll have a week to practice some more before hosting our tournament.”

The Lady Cougars are competing in Region 1-AA in 2015 along with Oak Mountain, LaGrange and Flint River.
