Deputies Respond To Burglary

Jasper County deputies Monday were called to a burglary in progress on Benton Street in Monticello.

The complainant said he heard a breaking noise and looked out at the unoccupied house and saw Kenneth Darnell James, 49, pushing a refrigerator up the street. Deputies arrived, and located Mr. James, and the refrigerator was in his yard, according to Captain Mike Steele.

Both Mr. James and Anthony Jerome Smith, 55, were arrested and charged with burglary.

Officers were not as quick to make arrests in a burglary on Hwy. 16 west where two phones, a wallet, and some cash were taken, but they are investigating. Investigators are also looking into a theft of services at 862 Hillsboro Street.

Persons arrested in the past week, and their charges, in addition to those named above include:

•Michael Jansen Peek, 24, Covington—incest, sodomy, child molestation, enticing a child for indecent purposes, statutory rape and aggravated child molestation.

•Robbie Darlen Reagin, 25, Conyers—criminal trespass.

•Patricia Lynn Greene, 27, Monticello—theft by taking.

•Dustin Travis Jeffrey, 20, Monticello—theft by taking and driving without a valid license.

•Alex Kelvin Carter, 54, Monticello: failure to maintain lane and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

•Kenneth Anthony Thurman, 52, Monticello—pedestrian under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
