Three ‘Canes Honored As All-Region

Walt McMichael was recently named Region Player of the Year and Tyler Mote was named Region Pitcher of the Year after leading the Monticello Hurricanes to a Region 4AA Championship this year.

These awards were voted on by all of the varsity baseball coaches in the region. Both young men were starters and strong leaders both in the field and at the plate. In addition, head coach Chris Jenkins was named Region 4AA Coach of the Year after leading the team to its first region championship in a number of years.

McMichael was a four-year starter at short-stop for the Hurricanes, and Mote proved to be a strong pitcher for the Hurricanes for the past three years.

In addition, second baseman Brelan Crowe and centerfielder Matthew Lawson were named to the 1st Team All Region, and pitcher/first baseman Michael Wyatt, Jr., catcher Josh Disharoon and rightfielder Quinton Standifer were all named to the 2nd Team All Region.

Coach Jenkins expressed his pride in these young men for stepping up and being leaders not just for the Hurricanes, but also throughout the region.

“Their natural athletic talent made them leaders on the field, but their sportsmanship made them leaders among their teammates and opponents.”
