Court Stays Busy
Jasper Superior Court has had two weeks of busy court sessions that began last week with civil trials on Monday, May 11 and a motion day Tuesday, May 12, under the jurisdiction of Judge Alison Burleson.
Sentences handed down last week included:
Jerome Stokes, six years in confinement with 14 years of probation for one count each including possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and obstruction of an officer, $2,000 fine.
Dwight Anthony Jones, 12 months in jail with credit for time served since September 2014 on one count of crossing the guard line with unauthorized items and seven years of probation for sale of methamphetamine, $1,500 fine.
Probation modifications included Bradley Wayne Biddy sentenced to 20 hours of community service for new charge of battery and cruelty to children in the third degree in February 2015 while on probation for disorderly conduct offense.
Walker Dewayne Williams, pay balance of court fines within 30 days or spend 20 days in jail for nonpayment of fees from previous charges of obstruction of officer and public drunkenness.
Craig Clifton Johnson, sentenced to 30 days in jail for new offense of cruelty to children (third degree) and family violence while on probation for charge of driving under the influence.
Shay Palmer Shelton, sentenced to 180 days in jail and suspended upon entry to detention center for 60-70 days for failure to report to probation office, failure to perform community service, failure to make payments, and failure to obtain substance abuse evaluation.

Clayton Besley, probation balance revoked to jail for new offense of driving under the influence, driving while license suspended and obstruction of an officer in Baldwin County.
Arrico Williams, probation balance revoked to jail for new offense of driving while license suspended in Newton County.
This week in Superior Court began Monday, May 18 with the trial calendar under review by Judge Trenton Brown, III. Sentencing of offenders is as follows:
Christy Michelle Anglin, 30 days in jail on one count of disorderly conduct.
Edmund Anthony Zygler, 24 hours in jails with remainder of 12 months sentence on probation for driving under the influence (DUI), $500 fine.
Sherry Yvonne Odom, 120 months of probation for 10 counts of violation of Georgia Employment Security Law, restitution of $7,464.
David Kent Sorrells, 24 months of probation for three counts of theft by receiving stolen property and one count of criminal trespass, $400 fine.
Dustin James Stewart, 12 months of probation for one count of battery, family violence, $400 fine.
Nicole Michelle Driskell, 12 months of probation for one count of giving false information to a law enforcement officer, $500 fine.
Rorqual Wynette Harps, 12 months of probation for one count each of obstruction of an officer and fishing without a valid license, $500 fine.
Evone Benjamin, 12 months of probation for obstruction of an officer, $400.
Deneisha Shonta Farley, 12 months of probation for one count each of disorderly conduct and obstruction of an officer, $ 500 fine.
Samantha Francine Fleming, 12 months of probation for possession of marijuana, $500 fine.
Tracey Eshawn Clark, 12 months of probation for theft of lost or mislaid property, $100 fine.
Judge Burleson assumed the bench on Tuesday, May 19 for motion day activities. The case load included the review of one divorce, one custody modification, one trust modification, and several child support cases.
Two probation revocations included Marquis Jackson, 60-90 days in detention center for positive drug test and failure to pay fines.
Also Tiffany Washington was sentenced jail time which was suspended in lieu of community service for not completing previous service.
