Revenue Dept. Has Unclaimed Property

Television station Channel 2 in Atlanta last week did a special on unclaimed property being held by the Department of Revenue.

A Monticello News reader saw the special and alerted The News.

The Department of Revenue has an unclaimed property division, which contains contents of abandoned safe deposit boxes among other sources. Information on the unclaimed property is available from the Department of Revenue website.

To see if you, your business, or a loved one is listed, just enter the name. A number of Monticello connections were found upon a quick perusal of the site.

The news report showed that some $500 million in cash has been taken in during the last five years, as well as coins, jewelry, and lots more, some of which is certainly junk, but some that is quite valuable.

Interested persons may contact the Department of Revenue about claiming the property.
