SCA Knights Beat John Hancock

The Shiloh Christian Academy Knights defeated John Hancock Academy, 5-2, on March 26 after a late game double.

The Knights and John Hancock Academy traded the lead five times on Thursday, but the Knights ended up on top with a 5-2 win in seven innings.

The Knights finally managed to grab the lead after a strong sixth inning. The Knights went up for good on a two-run double by David Sorrells, plating Caleb Sheridan and Caleb Compton.

Sorrells had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits.

Compton kept contact to a minimum, striking out 11 John Hancock Academy batters. Compton allowed two earned runs on four hits and four walks over seven innings. Knights offense was sparked by Compton and Sorrells, who teamed up for three hits and three RBIs.

The top of the first saw John Hancock Academy take an early lead, 1-0. John Hancock Academy kept the pressure on Knights pitching. The sixth spelled defeat for John Hancock Academy, as Knights grabbed the lead for good. More runners rounded the bases on an RBI double by Compton and an RBI single by Caleb Dinn.

The Knights out hit Barnes Academy in 6-4 defeat on March 31. The Knights lost 6-4 in seven innings on Tuesday, despite out hitting Barnes Academy six to five.

Compton reached base three times in the game for Knights. He also drove in one runner and tripled in the first inning and singled in the seventh inning.

Sorrells ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He allowed six runs in seven innings, walked three and struck out nine.

The game was never in doubt after the first, as Barnes Academy scored two runs on a fielder’s choice. Knights pushed across one run in both the first inning and the third. In the first, Knights scored on an RBI triple by Compton, bringing home Sheridan. After posting two runs in the third, Barnes Academy again scored two in the fourth. In the third, Barnes Academy scored on a fielder’s choice.

One Knights run crossed the plate in the bottom half of the third, making the score 4-2. A fielder’s choice triggered Knights’ comeback. Finally, #1 induced an inning-ending fly out from Compton. Two runs in the bottom of the fourth helped the Knights close its deficit to 6-4 and a bases loaded walk by Micah Compton sparked a Knights’ rally. However, Barnes Academy stopped the rally short of a Knights comeback.

April 2 the Knights rebounded in a big region game with Peachtree Academy at home. The Knights and Peachtree Academy passed the lead back and forth six times, but in the end Knights pulled out a 5-4 win in seven innings over Peachtree Academy. The Knights pulled out the win thanks to a strong fifth inning.

The Knights scored on an RBI single by Dinn, plating Sorrells. Sorrells racked up three RBIs on two hits for Knights. He homered in the first inning and doubled in the third inning. Compton got the win for Knights. He allowed four runs over seven innings.

Compton struck out three, walked two and gave up 12 hits. The top of the first saw Peachtree Academy take an early lead, 1-0. The Knights answered Peachtree Academy’s top inning with three runs of its own in the first.

The Knights scored on a three-run home run by Sorrells. Peachtree Academy tallied one run in each of the second, third and fifth. In the second, after a quick strike from Peachtree Academy, the Knights responded with one run in the third then held until the win.

The Shiloh Knights were 3-3 going into spring break and look to bounce back to action this week as they travel to Barnes Academy in Hartwell then host Westminster, both region games.
