Ms. Mattie Hunter-Awumee
A celebration of life for Ms. Mattei Joe Hunter-Awumee, who died April 6, was held April 11 at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Jimmy Horton, pastor, officiated; burial was in South View Cemetery.
Ms. Mattie Joe Hunter-Awumee was born October 4, 1953 to the parentage of Mr. Gus and Mrs. Eddie Pearl Hunter. She received her education in Jasper County. She was a member of the graduating class of 1972.
At an early age she accepted Jesus as her personal Savior when she joined Springfield Missionary Baptist Church. Mattie Joe was employed at Hartsfield Jackson International Airport for a number of years. When she was not at work she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends as well as her pet, Prince.
Early in the morning on Monday, April 6, Mattie Joe transitioned to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Larry Hunter and David Parsons, an uncle, Vince Johnson; two aunts, Sally Jackson and Mildred Stafford, and a special cousin, Willie Stafford.
Left to cherish the memories of her life are one daughter, Shondra D. Hunter of Atlanta; a grandson, Quantavious Hunter of Atlanta; four sisters, Margaret Hunter, Phyllis Hunter, and Rosa Waters, all of Atlanta, and Patricia Hunter of Monticello; three brothers, Ruben (Stacey) Hunter of Macon, William Hunter of Atlanta, and Frerddie (Clara) Manning of Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and special Johnny (Debra) Channey.
Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
