Cane Golfers Have Busy Week Ahead

The Monticello Hurricane golf team hosted Jackson and traveled to Newton for links action last week prior to spring break.

Last Monday at Hunter Pope Country Club the boys and girls squads faced off against Jackson High School. The boys lost by 11 strokes with Drew Williamson ending in a tie for low medalist shooting a 43. Jacob Bowers was one stroke back with a 44. Brock Lummus, Zach Mooney, Payton Harwood, and Noah Stubbs are all showing improvement, said coach Matt Tumlin.

The girls won the match by 13 strokes with low medalist going to Rileigh Evans. Baylee Keesee and Savannah Fritz also played well.

On Thursday, the team faced Newton on the front nine at The Oaks Golf Course in Covington. The boys got their second win of the season with low medalist going to Bowers with a 43. Williamson, Harwood, Lummus, and Daniel Cronan all helped in the team score which was 7 strokes better than Newton.

The girls lost by 11 strokes with Fritz in second place, one stroke back from the low medalist from Newton. Keesee and Evans also are showing improvement, noted the coach.

The week following spring break will be busy as the Canes will face Putnam County on Monday, April 13 at Hunter Pope followed by Greene County Tuesday,, April 14 at Harbor Club. On Wednesday, April 15 the team will face Northeast at Turtle Cove, and host Alcovy on Thursday, April 16 at Hunter Pope.

The region tournament will be held Monday, April 20 at Uchee Trail in Cochran.
