Mrs. Dena Lucille Stinson

A homegoing service for Dena Lucille Thompkins Stinson was held Saturday, March 14, at Greenwood Baptist Church in Shady Dale. Rev. Nicholas Curry, pastor, officiated; Rev. Michelle R. Rizer-Pool was eulogist. Burial was in Community Cemetery, Shady Dale.

Mrs. Stinson was born December 9, 1927, the daughter of the late Albert Thompkins and Carrie Thompkins Myrick. She died March 8, 2015.

She shared the love of her parents with four other siblings. Affectionately known as “Cille,” Sis. Dena was educated in Jasper County. She joined Mount Zion A.M.E. Church at an early age. She eagerly learned about her God, and her faith grew as she worked diligently for the kingdom of God through her service at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church as a steward and as a member of the senior usher board. She subsequently became the vice-president of the senior usher board.

In July 1952, after she grew to know her Lord and Savior, she met the love of her life, Bro. Clifford Stinson. They were joined in holy matrimony and lived their lives out together. Bro. Stinson transitioned from these mundane shores to glory on September 11, 2014. Sis. Stinson was a devoted and loving wife, aunt, and friend to all.

Sis. Dena Lucille Thompkins Stinson leaves to mourn and cherish her memories, brothers, Robert Thompkins of Covington and Alvin Thompkins of Sandersville; sisters, Marvin Thompkins of St. Louis, Mo., and Louis Thompkins of Atlanta; sisters-in-law, Roberta Greene and Doris Stinson, both of Shady Dale, and Pauline Eubanks of Covington; brothers-in-law, Charlie J. Eubanks, Henry Stinson and Roosevelt Stinson, all of Covington, Fred Stinson of Miami, Fla., and Eugene (Sarah) Stinson of Shady Dale. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
