Cougar Soccer Begins

Piedmont Academy’s soccer teams have finally been able to take to the field after several delays due to weather conditions.

The varsity Lady Cougars fell to Augusta Prep 11-0 to start the season, despite playing well in spots, coach Zach Norris said. The varsity boys were defeated 5-0 by Augusta Prep in the home match.

Piedmont also faced John Milledge Academy Tuesday in another region contest Tuesday this time on the road. The varsity girls fell in a close 2-1 match as Amelia Dodson scored the first goal of the season.

“We had a few chances in the second half but couldn’t capitalize,” Norris said.

The varsity boys also had a close match with John Milledge falling 1-0 on a penalty kick in the first half.

“Similar to the girls, we had a few good chances to tie the match,” Norris said.

Also on Tuesday, the Middle School girls won 6-4.

The varsity Lady Cougars will face Creekside Academy Friday on the road at 5 p.m.
