A celebration of life for Mary J. Thomas, who died February 22, 2015 was held Friday, Feb. 27, at New Bethel Grove Baptist Church in Monticello. Rev. Lucious Solomon officiated; burial was in the church cemetery.

Mary D. Jones Thomas was born in Monticello on September 28, 1928 to the late Jessie and Emma Lou Jones.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, A.C. Thomas; sister, Suleaner Wyatt and her son, Michael D. Thomas.

Mary was employed by Bibb Manufacturing Company in Porterdale for 20 years. She attained her early childhood education from Bethel Grove Church School, and she joined Bethel Grove Baptist Church at an early age serving faithfully until her health began to fail.

“Ms. Deebe” as she was known loved cooking for her family and had a love for flowers. She was the drink and ice cream lady for the neighborhood children. In conversations with her about life’s problems, her favorite words would be, “keep living long enough and you will know why.”

Her legacy of love will be cherished by her loving and devoted daughter, Gail Thomas; step-children, Margaret Davis and Eugne Cloud; five grandchildren, Amber, ShyAn, Alicia, Ashley and Carlos Thomas; a sister, Alice (Raymond) Hendricks of Jackson; a devoted brother-in-law, Tommie Lee Wyatt; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Thomas; nieces, JoAnn, Brenda, Remonia, Mia, Chiniqua, Suleaner, Becky, and Rosa; nephews, Jerry, Herbert, Ronny, Corey, Mario, Fred and Xavier; very special friends, Bernice Goolsby, Annie Mae Goolsby and Alice Wade, and other relatives and friends.

Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
