Deputies Investigate Incidents

Deputies with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office are investigating several incidents of wrongdoing over the last week or so.

One of the most perplexing, which the JCSO could use the public’s help with, is a case of an apparent hit and run though a fence that resulted in a horse getting out and subsequently being hit and killed.

The owner of the property at Hwy. 11 north and Henderson Mill Road was there about 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, and all was good. Apparently sometime between then and 12:30 a.m., someone went through the fence and tore it down, and no report was made. So the livestock in the two properties where the fence was broken were no longer contained.

A horse got out, and was hit by a work truck at 12:30 a.m. February 25. Law enforcement was called to that, and that’s when the broken fence was discovered.

The JCSO and the owners of the fence are asking anyone who saw anything that resulted in the broken fence to contact them at 706-468-4912, or use the anonymous tips line at 706-468-JCSO (5276).

Other criminal incidents reported included a report of ID fraud and a report of financial ID fraud. There were also two burglaries reported—one on Jasper Street, and one on Funderburg Drive, as well as a larceny where some $1,600 was stolen from a home on Nancy Street. There was also a report of theft by conversion and forgery.

Persons booked into the Jasper County Detention Center in the last week include:

•David Allen Smith, 39, Monticello—probation violation.

•Joseph Jarma-Tishun Standifer, 23, Monticello—Jasper County Probate Court bench warrant and driving while license suspended or revoked.
