Shiloh Knights Play for State

Shiloh Christian Academy’s varsity boys began region tournament play in the GICAA D2-A east last Tuesday. The tournament was held at Westminster Academy in Watkinsville and the Knights entered the tournament seeded #2 against Barnes Academy.

Having beat the Barnes Warriors twice in the regular season, the Knights had a good idea what it was going to take to win and move on to the championship game. The Knights indeed took care of the Warriors controlling the pace of the game using endurance and patience under the basket. The Knights won 73-53 moving them into the championship game last Thursday against the Westminster Lions.

Leading the Knights was R.J. Whitlock with 26 points, David Sorrells with 13, Trent Raines with 11, and Jonathan Martin had 8.

Last Thursday, for the region title, the Knights played tough for the win but came up short against a deep benched Lions team. The game was a close for much of the night, but some solid three-point shooting from the Lions pushed a Knights win just out of reach.

The Lions defense stifled the Knights rebounding and eliminated any success from behind the arch. The Knights made a push to close a significant deficit late in the 4th quarter but fell 45-27.

Leading the Knights in the title game was Whitlock again with 19 points along with Jonathan Martin who had 5 points.

At the close of the tournament, there were three Knights that received All-Region Awards for their stats and contributions to the season. Those awards went to senior David Sorrells, sophomore R.J. Whitlock and freshman Trent Raines.

The Knight’s runner-up finish awarded them a state playoff birth against GICAA D2-A South winner Trinity Christian at Rock Spring Christian Academy in Milner on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 4 p.m. For more information on SCA athletics visit www.shilohknight.com
