MS ‘Canes Are Champs

The Jasper County Middle School Canes went undefeated this season to become Piedmont Athletic Conference (PAC) Champions Saturday in a redeeming win over Morgan County 42-31 in Eatonton on Saturday.

Scorers were Tyrin Lawrence and Jay Fleetwood each with 16 points; Malik Crawford, 6; Ray Thurman and Devin Jackson, 2 each.

Coach Rufus Whitlock said Saturday’s win helped cap off the perfect season the young boys squad who fell to Morgan in last year’s PAC championship game.

“It rewarded all the hard work that the team had put into the season with practice and some close games. All of the players were excited and those that were on the team last year feel some redemption after the final loss to Morgan last year.”

Tyrin Lawrence and Malik Crawford were selected as part of the Piedmont Athletic Conference All-Tournament team. The league recognized the hard work those young men displayed on the court throughout the entire season and in the tournament.

MS Athletic Director Jim Strength also recognized the JCMS cheerleaders for all their hard work and support competing and cheering on the school’s teams this year.
