MS Boys Head to Finals

The Jasper County Middle School (JCMS) Lady Canes are out of the Piedmont Athletic Conference (PAC) league playoffs following a 43-29 loss to Social Circle Tuesday.

A win would have given the young girls squad a spot in the finals on Saturday. The Lady Canes complete their season with a 11-5 record. Social Circle was the #2 seed in the region and JCMS was the #3 seed.

The Lady Canes earned a 36-15 win last Saturday over Loganville Middle School to make it to Tuesday’s semifinal round. Scorers in the win included Mackenzie Tripp with 13 points; Madison Abbott, 11; Mia Jenkins, 6; Mackenzie Abbott, Maya West, and Alicia Tripp, 2 points each.

The squad is coached by Shakeria Middlebrooks.

Meanwhile, the boys squad still remains undefeated with a 43-21 win over Loganville in the first round of the playoffs. The young Canes were scheduled to face the War Eagles Wednesday in the second round of the tournament being held at Putnam County Middle School.

Last Saturday’s scorers were Tyrin Lawrence with 15 points; Malik Crawford and Devin Jackson, 8 points each; Jay Fleetwood and Ray Thurman, 5; and Corde Ross, 2.

A win Wednesday would lead the undefeated squad to the finals Saturday, Feb. 7 for a 3:30 p.m. matchup against Wednesday’s other winner, unknown at press time.

The boys are looking to redeem the loss they suffered in last year’s finals against Morgan County.
