Larry Michael “Mike” Whitmire

Larry Michael “Mike” Whitmire, age 70, of Shady Dale, died Friday, January 30, 2015, at his residence.

Mike Whitmire was born in Dry Pond, GA, to the late Paul Whitmire and Kate McDougal Whitmire. He served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Beginning their lives together in Florida, Mike and Beth began raising their two children, Marie and Shane. Later on they moved to Snellville, GA, where he coached baseball and softball games, and they devoted their lives to their children. Mike not only touched the lives of his children and grandchildren, he made friends wherever he went.

After many years of hard work, Mike and Beth retired to The Farm, in Monticello, GA where they pursued their dream. Together they created more than a home, but a haven, for themselves, their children, grandchildren, and large family.

He was a great husband, a devoted father, a proud grandfather, but most of all he was our Paw Paw.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Beth Johns Whitmire of Shady Dale; daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Brad Joines of Loganville; son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Jennifer Whitmire of Shady Dale; grandchildren, Kristen McIntyre Teuta, Keaton McIntyre, Collin McIntyre, Bailey Whitmire, and Carley Whitmire; brother, Bill Whitmire of Dry Pond; and sister, Joan Sizemore of Apple Valley.

A memorial service will be held Monday, February 2, 2015,at 11 a.m. at the Monticello Presbyterian Church. Rev. Rindy Trouteaud will officiate.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to one’s charity of choice.
