Cougars Fall at Home

Piedmont Academy’s varsity basketball teams fell to Monsignor Donovan Tuesday at home.

The Lady Cougars dropped a 51-31 matchup while the boys were defeated 77-52.

Amelia Dodson finished with a team-high eight points for the Lady Cougars while Haley Tyler added seven. Remington Marsh added six points while MaKennah Holifield added four points. A 20-point effort by Zach Beggs and 13-points from teammate Chandler Burrell were not enough for the boys. Beggs made three 3-pointers in the game, including one each in the second, third and fourth quarters.

Zach Wilson and Mack Brady both finished with six points.

Michael Edwards added five points.

Prior to Tuesday, the Piedmont Academy varsity teams were swept in a non-region matchup with Loganville Christian Academy.

The Lady Cougars, despite 16 points from Dodson, fell 53-49 in a home game. Marsh also finished in double figures with 13 points. Tyler scored six and Madison Burnham added two.

The visiting Lady Lions held a two-point lead at halftime but had moved in front by 10 points (40-30) after the third quarter.

Piedmont’s boys were unable to keep track with the Class AAA LCA Lions falling 83-31. Burrell once again led the team with 14 points with Chris McClain scoring six and Beggs and Wilson both scoring four.

LCA seized control early, outscoring the Cougars 27-6 in the first quarter.

Piedmont’s varsity teams will return to the court Friday against region foe Briarwood Academy at home followed by road region games at Brentwood Tuesday.

The regular season will conclude Friday, Feb. 13, against Windsor at home.
