Albert Lee Gantt (Big G)

Albert Lee Gantt (Big G) was born February 23, 1945 to the parentage of Bobby Lee Gantt and Mrs. Hannah Mae Wimbush Gantt.

Big G received his education at the Jasper County Training School. At an early age, he attended worship service with the King Chapel Church family. On January 23, 1967, Big G united in holy matrimony with the love of his life, Dollie Mae Pope. Later in life, he began to attend worship service at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church and Maddox Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

He was employed at Feldspar Corporation until he retired after giving 30 years of service. After retirement from Feldspar, he was employed with the Jasper County Board of Education for a brief period of time. On Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, he received a calling that only he could answer. It was his calling from labor to reward.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Willie Charles Gantt. Big G loved life and lived it to the fullest.

Fond memories of his life will always be cherished by Mrs. Dollie Mae Gantt; three sons, Timothy (Gloria) Bland of Eatonton, Albert Antonio (Larraine) Gantt of Winder, and Nathaniel (Natarcia) Williams, Jr. of Monticello, a daughter: Sheila Pounds of Monticello; a son-in-law, Brent Pounds of Eatonton, a sister, Hattie Gantt Thurman; two sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Whidby and Mary Jo Pope both of Monticello; two brothers-in-law: John Henry (Jewell) Pope and Donald (Belinda) Pope of Atlanta.

Also, two special aunts: Bonnie Smith of Warner Robins, and Lorrine Mohorne of Madison; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, along with six special God daughters: Eleanor Battle, Regina Rooks, Darlene Buckner, Evangelist Sharon Campbell, Shay and Kay Boykin; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Monticello, is in charge of arrangements.
