Lady Cougars Post Win, Boys Struggle
The Piedmont Academy Lady Cougars varsity basketball team, paced by a 24-point effort from Amelia Dodson, defeated Windsor Academy on the road Monday 46-39.
Dodson made 10 field goals and four free throws to help lead her team to the win. It was also a big night for Remington Marsh, who added 14 points, including four 3-pointers.
The Lady Cougars controlled the game throughout holding leads after every quarter.
Piedmont’s boys were led by another strong outing by Chandler Burrell, who scored 23 points, but the Cougars were unable to keep track with Windsor falling 103-61.
Mack Brady added nine points while Jeremiah Dave scored eight and Zach Beggs finished with seven.
The game was relatively close in the first half with Windsor leading 21-15 after the first quarter and 47-34 at halftime. The third quarter, however, proved to be a major factor in the game with the Knights outscoring the Cougars 37-17.
Piedmont’s varsity teams had a tough go of it Monday as they faced Monsignor Donovan in Athens.
The Lady Cougars fell 46-17 while the Piedmont boys were defeated 73-41 in region action. Marsh was the leading scorer for the Piedmont girls with eight points while Dodson scored six. Madison McCart scored two points and Matti Smith added a free row.
The Lady Rams led 12-8 after the first quarter but had opened up a 29-11 lead by halftime.
Piedmont’s boys, led by a 19-point effort by Burrell, also had a tough go of it during the trip. The game was close after the first eight minutes as Monsignor Donovan led by two but the Rams had opened a 33-16 halftime advantage and then led 53-29 after the third quarter.
Zach Wilson added nine points for Piedmont while Brady scored seven and Beggs finished with four. Chris Cain scored two points.
Piedmont’s varsity teams will step out of region play this weekend when they host Loganville Christian Friday, Jan. 30, at 6 p.m., and travel to The Heritage School in Newnan Saturday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m.
