Varsity Cougar Boys Win
Tuesday night’s home game for the Piedmont Academy varsity boys basketball team turned out to be a positive experience as the Cougars defeated Brentwood 66-49 in region play.
After falling behind early, Piedmont rallied for a 17-point victory led by a 21-point effort by Chandler Burrell, who finished the game with four 3-point baskets. Zach Beggs turned in one of his best performances of the season with 20 points, including three baskets from behind the 3-point line. Teammate Mack Brady also finished in double figures with 10 points. Jeremiah Dave added seven points in the win.
The Lady Cougars had a tougher go of it Tuesday falling 47-19 to Brentwood. Amelia Dodson was the top scorer with seven points followed by Remington Marsh with six.
The Piedmont Academy varsity boys basketball team also traveled to Briarwood Academy in Warrenton Friday night and behind a 25-point performance by Burrell earned a 64-55 win.
Burrell made three 3-pointer and six two-point baskets along with four free throws to lead the Cougars. Zach Wilson and Dave both had solid outings with 10 points each.
Beggs finished with eight points while Brady scored seven and Michael Edwards scored three.
The Cougars held a 12-point lead after the third quarter.
The Piedmont boys were involved a high-scoring affair Saturday at home against the Heritage School Hawks but fell 81-62. Burrell had another strong outing with 18 points while Edwards finished with 14. Dave added 13 points for coach Michael Wilson. Brady scored eight points with Beggs scoring four and Chris McClain added three.
The Piedmont Lady Cougars dropped a 49-38 decision to Briarwood Friday and then were defeated 56-22 by Heritage the following day.
In Friday’s game, Amelia Dodson and Marsh both scored 11 points while Cheyenne Galloway added nine. Matti Smith scored four points while Alexis Dodson scored two.
Amelia Dodson was the leading scorer against The Heritage School with six points followed by Marsh with five and Madison Burnham with four. Lucy Tuggle scored three points with Haley Tyler adding two.
Piedmont’s varsity teams will travel to Monsignor Donovan Monday.
