Rayfus Thomas

A celebration of life for Rayfus Thomas, who died January 5, 2015, was held Saturday, Jan. 10, at St. James A.M.E. Church with pastor Donna Marie Calix officiating. Interment was in South View Cemetery.

Rayfus Thomas was born on August 22, 1947 in Monticello to the union of Charlie Thomas, Jr., and Mrs. Gertrude Thomas.

He was educated in the Jasper County school system. He joined St. James A.M.E. Church and received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age.

Rayfus worked for the city of Monticello for many years until he moved to Covington. He then became an employee for the city of Covington and worked there for 32 years. He was a very hard worker. He also loved his family and had many friends that he cared about.

Rayfus was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Thomas, Jr.; brothers, Steven Lanier Thomas and Lamar Thomas, and sisters, Mary Francis Woods and Gertie Sue Barron.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving mother, Gertrude Thomas; three brothers, William Thomas (Gloria) of Atlanta, Benjamin Thomas (Phyllis) of College Park, and Arthur Clark Thomas of Monticello; two sisters, Evelyn Davis (Tommie) of Monticello and Stephanie Thomas of Covington. Ray was loved by a host of nephews, nieces, great and great-great cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. Also, a special niece and caretaker, Carmen Stone (John).

Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
