Piedmont Sweeps Bethlehem Christian

Piedmont Academy’s varsity basketball teams were able to register victories Saturday afternoon by sweeping visiting Bethlehem Christian Academy.

The Lady Cougars took a 51-35 win as Amelia Dodson scored a game-high 20 points. Dodson scored six points in both the first and second quarters and added four each in the third and fourth.

Remington Marsh and Haley Tyler both added 11 points in a balanced scoring attack for the Piedmont girls.

After jumping out to a 14-5 lead after the first quarter, the Lady Cougars led 25-12 at halftime. Matti Smith contributed six points while Madison Burnham scored three points, all in the fourth quarter.

The Piedmont boys got back on the winning track with a 56-46 win over the visiting Knights. Chandler Burrell scored 16 points to lead the Cougars who also got a 10-point performance by Mack Brady.

Jeremiah Dave and Zach Beggs both finished with eight points while Chris McClain and Michael Edwards both scored five points. Chris Cain and Zach Wilson added two each.

Piedmont trailed 14-9 after the first quarter but had moved in front 23-21 by halftime. The BCA Knights outscored the Cougars 16-11 in the third quarter and led 37-34 before Piedmont went on a 22-9 run in the game’s final eight minutes.

Jacob Fincher scored 13 points for BCA.

Prior to Saturday’s wins, Piedmont was swept by John Milledge Academy at home Friday. The Lady Cougars fell 50-23 as Dodson led the team with 12 points.

Marsh added nine points while Tyler scored two.

In the boys game, Piedmont fell 61-43 as Dave was the leading scorer with 10. Wilson and Beggs added nine points each while Burrell finished with eight. Brady scored four points while Edwards added two and Cain made one free throw.

The Piedmont varsity basketball teams will to action Friday with Region 4-AA contests against Briarwood on the road. Piedmont will then host Heritage Christian Saturday in non-region action beginning at 4 p.m.
